Birch Bark Knife Sheath

Ages: 16-Adult

Expanded text for Event detail:

Learn how to weave a traditional birch bark sheath for your knife, scissors, or other sharp tools.

Bring in your tools and learn how to weave and lace birch bark covers. Blades need to be under 4 inches long. Students will learn a woven and a winding/laced technique. You’ll leave with at least one and up to two sheaths you’ve made, and the know-how to make them on your own. We’ll also talk about birch bark and its amazing properties and importance to cultures in the regions where birch trees grow.

If you don’t happen to have a knife at the moment, you’re welcome to come learn, so you’ll be ready to make a sheath once you do! We will also have slojd knives available for purchase at registration and during class.

No prior experience with weaving required.
Suitable for ages 16+. Ages 14-15 are welcome to register if accompanied by an adult.
